Robyn Baker is a contemporary Australian artist based in Cairns, Queensland, Australia.
We worked together to produce ‘Yellow Eyes’ – her book of poems and ‘utterings’…
This was not simply a case of overlaying text to complement each image, it was essential to discover the balance where design did not overtake the craft and passion delivered by the poems and artworks.
The book is a journey, where the relationship isn’t that of typography and art, it is the more intimate relationship between the works and the reader. The work and emotion driving each piece dictates how this reader experience is delivered. To emphasise this, each book carries an original hand-drawn sketch and ‘uttering’ by Robyn – making each one truly unique, intimate and connected.
My role was to design, layout, create and emphasise the works and manage the final print process.
